We usually love staying at this particular Wingate, but this trip left something to be desired. When we checked in Saturday, the room we were assigned had a problem with the air conditioner. The only way the unit functioned was if we open the room door to activate a start up, but after 10 minutes it would turn off and not come back on again. After attempting to fall asleep, we called the front desk to report the issue at about 11:30PM. An employee came up to the room and said that he would make an adjustment that would keep the unit running continuously. It did not work and for the rest of the night either I or my husband would get up, open the room door and hope the unit would stay on. IT DIDN'T. The next morning I went to the front desk to advise them of the situation and ask if there was anyway to change rooms as we were part of a wedding later in the day and needed to get some uninterrupted sleep. I was told that would not be possible till after 11:00am, but that the first room available would be given to us. I received a call from the front desk to advise me that housekeeping needed more time to get a room ready, but we would be called as soon as we could move. Again, we were stuck in the room without air conditioning and unable to grab that nap we now desperately needed. We received permission to move to another room at 3:15PM, too late for that nap. Housekeeping staff was very nice in trying to help us get settled into our new room and even told us they had check the air conditioner to make sure it was working properly. The new room, room 326 was immaculately cleaned and prepared. Now let's talk about the first room, room 335. When we arrived I found a hairbrush on the end table and a candy wrapper on the floor next to the bed. The carpet between the bed and the window had not been vacuumed and still had the traces of someones lunch. It was clear that this part of the room had not been vacuumed. I am now sorry that I did not report this at the time of our stay and probably wouldn't even be talking about it now , but you asked, so I'm telling you.This time I am afraid your hotel did not live up to the standards you had previously set. The whole matter of the air conditioner not working properly and not being able to have that situation resolved in a reasonable amount of time made this trip a less than enjoyable stay. PS: My ratings below will refer to the first room, not the second.
