“Prepare to be woken up and then yelled at if you complain”

We stayed at this hotel while visiting family for Christmas (we celebrated a week before) and I will NEVER stay at this hotel again. Here's why: Our check in was fine, front desk seemed courteous. I have a hard time sleeping in strange places, so it was well after 1am before I finally dozed off. At 430am, the door to our room opened!!! Luckily we had the slider lock on, so they didn't make it very far in. We jumped out of bed prepared to meet a robber or murderer (we had both noticed the back door of the building didn't lock properly, so ANYONE could have walked in). We heard someone say, "Oh crap!" and take off running down the hall, leaving the door cracked open. We didn't know what to think, or if someone had mistakenly been checked into the same room, so we called the front desk. After several rings, she answers and said, "Oh yeah, sorry about that. I was doing empty room checks." Not only were we upset that we'd been woken up at that time of morning, but we also were perplexed why the female front desk clerk would be doing room checks at 430 in the morning? We contact the manager the next morning and we tell her what happened. We didn't yell, we didn't curse, we calmly explained that we weren't able to get back to sleep that night because it scared us so bad. She seemed to understand, told us she'd talk to the owner to see if she could get us some compensation for our incident. We never saw her or the front desk until 2 days later. My husband went down for breakfast (on a Saturday) and there was a gentleman desk clerk and he asked the clerk, as we had not heard back from the manager. He said he didn't know, but he would call her and then call us. He never did.My husband goes down again the next morning for breakfast, and asks the clerk again as we were checking out that morning. The desk then told him in a very short and clipped manner that we would receive 10% off on our NEXT visit. Well, needless to say, Super 8 is a $50-$70 a night hotel, which means that at most, we would get $15-$21 back on our next visit. Then when we checked out, and I tried to ask him to contact his manager so I could speak to her again, he got mad and proceeded to yell at me and tell me we'd "done nothing but complain since we got there" and he "knew he'd have problems with us!" So we left, very upset after being treated so poorly and had to contact corporate to resolve the situation as this place/owner refused to compensate us in any reasonable way for such poor service!
